HAZARD MITIGATION

SPECIAL PURPOSE COMMITTEE MEETING

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2005

FLOODING

Mr. Jack Wright, Chairman of the Hazard Mitigation Special Purpose Committee for Flooding called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Wright asked all members to introduce themselves.

Mr. Wright asked Mr. Alfonso Casana to explain about the importance of the October 21 date on the proposed schedule of activities. Mr. Casana explained that all comments are due to him via email in order to meet the deadline of November 30 for the final draft. FEMA will ask to review all files, even the email files.

Mr. Wright asked the committee to make sure they review the Mitigation Strategy section and the Task Check List.

Mr. Casana pointed out that it was very important that comments and corrections are made to the plan, with the disaster in the South, we have got to have a good plan, not just setting somewhere on a shelf.

Mr. Steve Meeks, Morgantown, reported he and the Butler County Judge will get with Mr. Casana regarding changes for Butler County. Also, Mr. Meeks is working to get the Morgantown Mayor involved. Mr. Meeks will meet with the Butler Fiscal Court on October 10 to discuss the importance of participating in the National Flood Program.

Mr. Tony Keithley, Emergency Management, reported there are problems in Simpson County. Mr. Eric Larson said there are problems and he was not aware of plans being worked on.

Mr. Larson made the suggestion that Mr. Casana go ahead and put the plan together and send to judges and mayors and asked them to review and provide comments. If the plans do not get in the hands of the officials before the November deadline, corrections or comments may not get made.

Mr. Wright suggested that Mr. Casana highlight each individual county to make it easier to review. Mr. Casana said he would mail hard copy of the sections containing Mitigation actions, implementation, and plan maintenance process to all mayors and judges.

Mr. Ed Dyer made a suggestion that a letter accompany the plan to the judges and mayors stating that in order to get funding your section must be complete.

Mr. Wright also suggested to Mr. Casana that a glossary of terms be added, explaining the meaning of the acronyms.

With no further comments, Mr. Wright adjourned the meeting at 2:00 p.m.
