History

The seventy-ninth county in order of formation, Edmonson County is located in south-central Kentucky. The most noted feature of the county is MAMMOTH CAVE, the largest cave system in the world; it is a 51,000-acre national park (much of it in the county). The landmark has ensured economic prosperity for the region. In 1988 tourism in Edmonson County accounted for more than $39 million in revenue and generated more than 1,400 jobs.
