MAKING COMMUNITIES BETTER

More than 50 from local Planning Commissions and Boards of Adjustment took part in seminar developed by the Center for Local Governments, WKU; and the Barren River Development Council.

Dr. Victoria Gordon, Director of the Center, welcomed those attending. More training will be provided later in the year. State law requires commissioners to have four hours training within 60 days of appointment and a total of eight hours in the first year. The Center certifies those attending the courses.

Dr. Chris Groves discussed a new tool for planners, a digital map of vulnerable and sensitive water resources, critical in karst areas. (See related story and map).

Comments provided by those attending were highly favorable and will provide considerable help in developing future seminars.
