"KENTUCKY CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR" AWARD
Bill Cooper, Executive Director of the Division of Aging Services presents Mrs. Copeland with Kentucky Caregiver of the Year.

The Barren River Area Agency on Aging, Family Caregiver Support Program was honored to receive the news that one of our very own caregiver’s, Ruth Ann Copeland was selected from many nominees throughout the State of Kentucky as “Kentucky Caregiver of The Year ”.   Mrs. Copeland was honored before a large crowd with standing room only, at the “ First Annual Kentucky Aging Conference, Living the Dream” Friday, September 9th in Lexington.

Mrs. Copeland’s care giving story was told before the large audience of aging staff from across the state.  Mr. Bill Cooper, Executive Director of the Division of Aging Services recognized Mrs. Copeland for her tireless efforts, and strengths she exhibited throughout her Journey as the primary caregiver of her late husband Mr. James Copland. Mrs. Copeland received a standing ovation as she accepted the award in honor of her dedication and sacrifice.  

In other care giving news, November was National Family Caregiver Month and the Barren River Area Aging on Aging hosted the 4th annual, “In Thanks Giving of Family Caregivers,” training and luncheon on November 8, 2005 at the Sloan Convention Center. Over 60 caregivers throughout the BRADD attended the training, which included the following guest speakers, Sandra Scott, Disaster Coordinator American Red Cross, “ Care-giving/ Preparing for Disaster,” Dr. Melissa Hakman, Western Kentucky University Dept. of Psychology, “ Avoiding the Holiday Blues” and Bobby Gilbert, R.N. Family Care Home Health Agency “ Caregiver Needs.
