HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
Hundreds of local officials and citizens have joined with the BRADD staff to prepare a regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, with final review and approval expected by next summer. The Plan will guide local governments in reducing natural hazard costs by pre-mitigation. Examples would include halting construction in flood plains, better tornado warning systems near mobile home parks, burying utility lines to prevent power outages during ice storms, or managing water usage during drought.  Preparation of the Plan has included collection of information that builds on the 2000 study of natural hazard threats to the Area.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan is one part of the BRADD security program, which included helping local governments become compliant with the National Incident Command System (NIMS) and participate in the Citizens Corps programs.

Ronnie Pearson, Warren County Director, discusses plan items with Gary Madison, Chairman of the BRADD Hazard Mitigation Council.
