Currently, Warren County is considered an air quality attainment area meaning it meets federal regulations for air quality standards; however, the community has been borderline in exceeding these standards in terms of Ozone. Once Warren County exceeds this threshold, it will be designated a nonattainment area for air quality. This means that all transportation projects that receive federal funding will have to show they do not contribute to additional air quality damage and the community must then take measures to ensure the proper education and public outreach efforts are being conducted. Although being borderline, there are no additional funds to address this air quality issue. The Warren County community has decided to take a proactive approach in addressing these air quality issues. Learn more about what you can do to educate yourself and perform simple techniques that can help Warren County maintain its healthy air quality, and spread the word! Here are three simple steps you can do to help the air quality in Warren County during the spring and summer months: 1. Refuel when it's cool. Refueling during cooler periods of the day or in the evening can prevent gas fumes from heating up and creating smog or "ozone." And that helps reduce unhealthy air days, especially in the summer. 2. Don't top off your gas tank. It releases gas fumes into the air, which cancels the benefits of the pump's anti-pollution devices. So stopping short of a full tank keeps gas off of you and reduces pollution. 3. Use less gas. Not idling, maintaining your car, keeping your tires properly inflated and buying or renting a low-emission fuel-efficient car will help you use less gas, save money and reduce air pollution.
