DSL - Digital Subscriber Line, a generic term encompassing a family of moderate speed access using a subscriber's existing copper lines.
DS1 - The AT&T Bell System level 1 digital standard for systems operating at 1.544 Mbps and consisting of 24 DS-0 channels.
DS3 - The AT&T Bell System level 3 digital standard for systems operating at 44.736 (45) Mbps.
ISDN - Integrated Services Digital Network, see also BRI and PRI. A switched digital service using a 16 Kbps "D" channel for signaling and two or more 64 Kbps or 56 Kbps (some US) "B" channels for data transmission.
BRI - ISDN Basic Rate Interface, 2B+D. In the US, B may equal 56- or 64-Kbps. The D or signaling channel is 16 Kbps.
PRI - North American Primary-Rate Interface, 23B+D ISDN interface, made up of a 64 Kbps D-channel for signalling, and 23-B channels for data, each operating at 64 Kbps.
Redundancy (telecommunications) - Alternative and/or duplicate transmission paths, routes, equipment and power in various combinations to enhance the reliability of a telecommunications infrastructure.
IXC - Inter-eXchange Carrier
POP - Point-Of-Presence, the common carrier physical location in a city, for example.
